Massage therapy, the
manual manipulation of soft body tissues to enhance health and
well-being, is one of the oldest forms of medicine known to mankind and
has been practiced worldwide since ancient times.
Touch given with the intention of healing, the common factor in all forms of massage, is believed not only to have beneficial effects on tissue, body fluids and other systems of the body but also to communicate caring with another human being.

What is a relaxation massage?
Most massage treatments will relax you, among other things. With a relaxation massage, relaxing you is the only aim. A relaxation massage is usually a full-body treatment depending on the duration. A half hour relaxation massage will cover the whole back and back of legs; and full hour (or 90 mins) will include back (this includes neck and shoulders), back and front of legs, stomach, arms, upper chest area and face. It is a passive treatment so you just lie there and take it.
This is the massage to choose if you just want to chill out, and be pampered and spoiled!
What is relaxation massage good for?
A good relaxation massage relieves stress and tension in your muscles and will leave you oozing with a sense of wellbeing. It achieves this because of the general benefits of massage: it improves your circulation, so your organs and skin get more oxygen; it moves fluid through your lymphatic system. A relaxation massage encourages your body to digest its food, and get rid of its toxins. It will help you to sleep better. A massage will also help un-knot any muscles, soothe aches and sprains and encourage the skin to heal minor abrasions.

What is a deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage is a faster paced massage which aims to warm the muscles more deeply in order to be able to work more effectively on deeper layers of muscle tissue without damaging them. This form of massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as relaxation, but the pressure will generally be more intense. Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue and aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas. Trigger point work is often used in deep tissue massage to help break up adhesions in the muscles.
Why get a Deep Tissue Massage?
It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.

What is a remedial massage?
Remedial massage uses various massage techniques to help relieve pain and stimulate healing in a specified body area. Techniques are used from both relaxation and deep tissue massage. Other techniques often used in remedial massage are tapping and "pounding" techniques which stimulate the muscles; stretching muscles and ligaments; and joint mobilisation which helps to lubricate joints and increase range of movement in the area.
Benefits of Remedial Massage
Key benefits of Remedial Massage include: the stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed; the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort; and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension can also be experienced through therapeutic relaxation. Muscular and skeletal dysfunctions often addressed with Remedial Massage include fibrositis, spondylitis, arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, whiplash, muscular atrophy, sports and dancing injuries.
Sessions usually take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the whether you wish to address a specific area or give a whole body massage.

Chinese Hot Stones Massage uses a combination of hot and cold river stones to provide a deep sense of relaxation.
The application of hot stones to an area penetrates the deeper tissue. This softens the muscles and helps to release tension. The application of cold stones can help treat acute injuries by reducing muscle inflammation. Alternating the use of both hot and cold stones increases the circulatory response of all systems in the body. Hot stones bring oxygenated blood to an area, increasing lymph flow and metabolism. Cold stones push away unwanted congestion, inflammation and blockage of any kind. This combination helps to detoxify the body and bring it back into balance.

After
your massage:
Try not to plan any hectic activity immediately afterwards. You will probably feel like having a lie down - listen to your body! It can seem surreal and is probably pointless, for example, to go straight back to work if you are feeling so relaxed you can hardly speak!
Deep tissue and remedial massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.
